I was born on a breezy October morning in 1979 in a small village in the middle of Finland, called Ähtäri. My musical career begun when I started playing keyboards at the age of nine or so. My grandfather taught me, sometimes with good success, sometimes not. I used to hide the notations for the songs I didn't like to play and tell that they were lost. At the age of ten or eleven I started to play guitar. I became very taken up with it a couple of years later when I discovered the band called Iron Maiden, which has been the greatest musical paragon for me ever since. I joined my first band in 1992, which played mostly covers on school music classes. About a year later I formed another band called Cadavers, which included also Noumena's drummer Ilkka on bass. It was a bit more metal orientated than the first one, and most of the songs were written by ourselves. Another year went by and the band changed it's name to Emulaattori, and another guitarist was replaced by Noumena's vocalist Antti. My first real metal band was called Inferion at the humble age of 15, which included also Tuukka on guitar and Ilkka on bass, I did the vocals and another guitar. It did two fine demos and a couple of gigs. Try a song from the first demo here. After Inferion lost it's track, I was in a couple of bands before Noumena. TMF included Antti on vocals and Tuukka on bass, Conspiracy Within introduced Hannu to our humble gang as a guitarist, me on vocals, Tuukka on drums and Antti on bass. Finally, in the beginning of 1998, all the best members of my previous bands gathered up as Noumena. All us being long time friends, but never before played together in one band. My tasks in this wonderful creation have been guitar playing, songwriting, lyrics, art direction (whatever it includes), and I'm also in charge of this and the previous websites. I'll try here to represent the greatest milestones of my career as a music listener in somewhat chronological order: Queen - The Scorpions - Iron Maiden - Paradise Lost - Amorphis - Carcass - Edge of Sanity - Anathema - Tiamat - My Dying Bride - Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Katatonia. Some of these I have put aside more or less, but the most of their fine albums are still sticking in my CD or LP player. These are the bands and artists for whom my heart always belongs to in a form of one or another. Point your finger at me if you hear echoes of these in Noumena songs, I won't get too mad.
